This is one of my all time favorite photos. There is a contrast between the single man fishing and the couple walking hence the title, "Solitude and Intimacy." There is much symbolism here too. Both solitude and intimacy are important in life, but what happens to those that try to live their life alone? The foot prints of the man alone are going around in circles while the foot prints of the couple are going in a straight line. The man alone has his back towards his shadow (for all of you Carl Jung fans) while the couple is walking into their shadows. Growth occurs in relationship, solitude gives an occasional chance to incubate the lessons learned in relationship. The is a poem by Rumi that states, "Unless you're a jackass, don't try to walk through the desert alone."
